About Me, Karen Schoubye The Artist
I am the owner of Gad Zukes Designs and maker of Gad Zukes Monsters and Blockheads. I've been creating characters most of my life and since art school, I've played with all sorts of media.
I love using mixed medias that I can find in my stash of supplies. For my monster pictures I use decorative papers, ink pencils, cording, acrylic paint and more. My Blockheads are made with paper clay then decorated with tissue, and things like tiny nails, yarn or cording. The ideas for my characters come about randomly.
Sometimes I have an idea in my head and other times my characters are just happy accidents. I create them with color, personality and humor in mind. So, my hope for my audience is to give them that awe moment or make them smile and laugh. Of course, my work is my passion and as of now, I plan on devoting most of my time to my character designs.
Creating my work makes me happy. I have taught art now for 3 years to kindergarten thru eighth grades, challenging. While teaching my students it was my goal to instill a love of art in them. Many developed a love for art that made them happy as well. When this happened I saw a transformation and noticed how it enriched their lives.
For now, I am artist and art teacher. It is my hope to provoke a sense of fun. Especially for those that value the whimsical world of monsters and other imaginative characters.
